LEAP Academy

The Midlothian ISD LEAP Academy mission is to help students maximize their potential by providing an individualized, diverse learning environment empowering them to succeed while working at an accelerated pace. LEAP Academy accommodates students with a need for a non-traditional graduation option.

Leadership, Excellence, Academics, and Perseverance are all attributes needed to help students overcome obstacles and succeed. LEAP Academy allows flexibility for varying circumstances, and allows students from Midlothian High School and Heritage High School the opportunity to earn a high school diploma from MISD.

About Leap academy

LEAP Academy is a non-traditional setting in which students are able to work at an accelerated pace.

Attendance: Students will be given a specified time block, either AM (8:00 - 12:00) or PM (12:00 - 4:00) for the program after orientation. LEAP requires students to attend school every day, unless unforeseen circumstances arise. If a student does not meet the attendance requirements of LEAP, they will be put on academic probation, and if still necessary will return to their home campus and be withdrawn from the program at the end of the current semester.

Method of Instruction: LEAP students will complete all course work through a digital program called Edgenuity. This program provides students with course instruction, academic work, and testing to earn credits necessary for graduation.

LEAP Teachers and Staff: Teachers and staff members at LEAP provide students with support in their specific curricular areas of instruction.

Academic Planning: Each LEAP student enters the program with individual academic needs. LEAP students will meet individually with the counselor to discuss their individualized graduation plan to earn their diploma.

Graduation Requirements: Students are legally required to hold to State of Texas and Midlothian ISD graduation requirements.

  • Students must graduate on a 26 credit graduation plan. Extenuating circumstances may allow for a reduced plan to 22 credits.
  • STAAR tests for Algebra 1, English 1, English 2, Biology, and US History must be passed.
  • Students must complete at least 1o hours of community service.
  • Students are required to be college, career, or military ready for post-secondary success.

*Students attending LEAP Academy may participate in their home campus's graduation ceremony. We also host a LEAP Celebration for our graduates the Thursday before their campus's commencement ceremony in May.
