Mission & Vision
The mission of the Midlothian Independent School District Library Media Services Department is to empower all for a lifetime of learning.
Our vision is to:
IMPACT academic achievement by supporting curriculum;
CREATE an environment of engaging learning experiences;
FOSTER collaborative opportunities for all stakeholders;
SERVE the unique needs of the learning community;

Library Policies
Checkout Policy
Students may check out up to five items at a time for a three-week time limit. Items are renewable at the end of this regular check-out period. Additional items may be checked out for an extended period upon request.
Items Available for Check-out
The library has books, ebooks, DVDs, and digital audiobooks available for checkout. Board games and Makerspace equipment can be checked out for in-library use.
Library Assistants
Library Assistants gain valuable work experience while helping to keep the library running smoothly. They are also the first to check out new books and Makerspace tools. Student Assistants work at the circulation desk and complete odd jobs around the library. If you are interested, please contact your librarian.
Library Hours
Our library is open Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 4:15 pm.
Clubs & Organizations can reserve library space by request before and after school.. Please email Mrs. Gardner to confirm a time.
Makerspace
The Heritage Library Makerspace is available for all students to work on independent projects. Students may check out Makerspace materials for in-library use. Students may utilize the 3D printer for a small supply fee. For more information on our Makerspace, please contact your librarian.
Overdue Item Policy
Please return items by the due date posted in Destiny or request a renewal. Students are expected to pay for lost or damaged items. Any student who owes an obligation at the end of the year will be placed on a hold list for graduation or schedule pickup the following year.

Library Staff
Library Behavior Expectations
- Visitors must be purposeful and not disruptive to others.
- Visitors must be respectful of the facility and resources and return furniture, activities, etc., to the original state before leaving.
- Visitors may use devices, with staff permission, for school purposes such as communication, product creation, or reading/research.
- Visitors should not bring food to the library. Water in a bottle with a closing lid is allowed.
when may i visit the library
Before School: Starting at 8 AM the library is open for students who need a place to work, read, or collaborate. Morning visitors must be purposeful and not disruptive to others.
During the School Day: Students may visit the library as a class or individually with their ID and a teacher pass. All students must be purposeful and not disruptive to others.
During Lunch: Students may visit the library during their lunch period on a first come, first served bases, dependent upon other scheduled activities in the library. Students are not permitted to move seating without permission and should not be disruptive. At this time there is no eating allowed in the library. Students are responsible for cleaning their areas before leaving.
Anytime students visit the library during school hours they must have their school ID. Students without their ID will return to class or issued a temporary badge.
Why may I visit the library?
To Ask for Assistance: Students and staff are welcome to visit the library for limited technical support, online resources, reading suggestions, research help, etc.
To Read/Study/Collaborate: Students are welcome to visit the library to independently read and study, or to work collaboratively with a group. Collaborative work should not be disruptive to others.
To Explore the Makerspace: Students can utilize the makerspace activities when the makerspace is open or with permission from the library staff.
To Check Out E-books: Students and staff can visit the library to learn how to check out e-books/audiobooks from laptops or from other personal devices.
To Check Out Physical Books: Students and staff are welcome to check out materials from the MHS Library.
